As you know my niece and nephew are visiting this week. On Monday, we went to the Lazy 5 Ranch, which is kind of like a zoo with animals in their natural habitat. We rode the hay wagon, which didn’t have hay, but had benches to sit on. This got us up close and personal with the animals as we fed them.
But… the most favorite of all were the prairie dogs.
A bee buzzed nearby and this sweet little prairie dog squealed a warning. The smaller prairie dog raced for the hole and then this one covered and stood guard over the smaller one. We didn’t know if it was a male protecting the female, or a mom protecting its baby, but whatever the situation, it was the sweetest example of how to love and look out for others.
It was so amazing to see God’s creation in all of these animals. The colorings on the animals were beautiful. The giraffes had long thick eyelashes. Small antelope had tiny white stripes that looked like someone had meticulously painted them on with a small paintbrush. The sweet natures of all these animals were amazing, even the largest, as they have gotten used to people being in their environment.
There were only a few that were off-limits and had to be viewed from a distance, like the zebra and rhinoceros.
After the zoo, we went back to cousins Collette and Preston’s home and played Ginga, Uno, worked puzzles and watched the DVD, Facing the Giants. My niece and nephew, have watched the movie so much, they were able to quote most of what the actors were saying before they said it. It was fun to watch them and know they are enjoying wholesome entertainment.
We went home and swam, before and after supper, then finished up the night by making cookies at 9:30 p.m. We said our prayers and they fell asleep while I was reading a Little House On The Prairie series book to them.
