This week I am working in Vacation Bible School at our church. I am responsible for teaching 13 third graders. Our group name is the “Wild Eagles”… from the Wild Eagle roller coaster at Dolly Wood. Our theme for the week is Colossal Coaster World Facing Fear, Trusting God. Our verse for the week is 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
I had to keep reminding myself of the no fear and that He will keep my mind SOUND, as I witnessed the energy level and the abundant vocabulary contained in the bodies of third graders.
I needed to decorate cheaply for the week, so I went to my garden for help. I ordered a roller coaster display from Oriental Trading and to that I added “shrubs” for our roller coaster park, made from my hydrangeas. I soaked them in a bathtub of cold water, with a small amount of Clorox, to get rid of the gazillion bugs living on them.
You can see the results below.
My reward for the work came when one of the boys slid up beside me and shyly said, “I like how you decorated our room.”
Despite the energy and ability to talk… A LOT!… you can’t help but love such a sweet soul. 🙂
