When you live in the country it is hard to avoid getting poop on your shoes. Since this is something that I am always watching out for, when my Sunday School teacher, Robert, gave us a lesson on sin several weeks ago, it really stuck (no pun intended).
Romans 6:14-15 says that “sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!”
Robert said, (my paraphrase) sin is like getting poop (sin) on your shoes. It doesn’t smell good, you notice the stench, and you need to clean it up.
Robert went on to say, the problem arises when we have the poop (sin) on our shoes and we don’t know it. Heaven forbid someone else has to tell you to get the poop off your own shoes.
We need to be watching out, avoiding the poop (sin), but if we step in it…. we need to clean it up before someone else has to tell us.
Many of us think we are poop free (sinless). The Bible says we are even sinning when we know something is good to do, yet we won’t do it (James 4:17). “If we say that we have no sin we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” 1 John 1:8
So today….the lesson from the garden (thanks to Robert) is….avoid the poop to the best of your ability, but if you do get poop on your shoes, clean it off, and don’t make someone else have to tell you it’s there. (2 Thessalonians 3:15)
